Housing Supply: indicators of new supply

This dataset represents the number of new permanent dwellings that were started to be built, and completed, in each financial year (1st April to 31st March). These items are reported upwards to national Government, and then published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government as part of their Live tables on housing supply: indicators of new supply publication.

Data has been taken directly from Table 253: permanent dwellings started and completed, by tenure and district which portrays the number of "starts" and "completions" in each year, categorised by the nature of the builder / developer: Private enterprises, housing associations, or local authorities.

Published values for Surrey, and for each of the 11 district and borough councils, are given in the spreadsheet available for download at foot of this page. Values are rounded to the nearest 10 in this data release, so the published totals for Surrey county may not equal the sum of component parts. Estimated values for the new unitary authorities of West Surrey and East Surrey have been calculated by summing the published values for their constituent district and borough councils. These unitary values are indicative only, due to the summing of already rounded values.

The majority of home building in Surrey is undertaken by private enterprises, followed by housing associations. Direct local authority home building does occur, but in small volumes. All "homes" are included: individual units may be detached houses, semi-detached houses, terraced houses, or flats and apartments. This data set does not shed light on the type or size of dwellings included.
