Liability Claims Data - Highways

These data sets provide information on public liability claims received specifically in relation to Highways. The data is focused on vehicle damage claims and personal injury claims only.

Each data set is illustrated by both financial year and calendar year.

Context:

All data is correct as at 19 March 2026.

The ‘Number of Claims Received’ is based on notification date. The incident date may fall within a previous financial or calendar year.

The total compensation paid within each year relates to the total sums paid within that period, irrespective of when the claim was received. The total sums paid will therefore have no direct correlation to the number of claims received within the same period.

Compensation payments relating to personal injury claims will include both damages and the claimant’s legal costs.
