Road safety statistics
Statistics on road safety in Great Britain are collated and published by the Department for Transport. These data are mostly based on personal-injury collisions reported to the police in the STATS19 data collection. Further information on STATS19, including strengths and limitations, can be found in the guidance here.
Data is collected and published at the level of the local Highways Authority; in Surrey this means Surrey County Council, so relevant statistics are published for the county as a whole rather than being broken down by District and Borough council area.

This page provides Surrey specific datasets extracted from the national publications, and the statistics cover all road accidents involving human death or personal injury occurring on the Highway and notified to the police within 30 days of occurrence, and in which one or more vehicles are involved. This information, referred to as STATS19, is the set of data which has to be collected by a Police Officer when an injury road accident is reported to them.

This online Dashboard enables users to view performance against Key Safety Performance Indicators relating to road safety, with the option to select Surrey (Geography level = 'County/Unitary Authority', then Geography = 'Surrey').
