Headline figures

  • As of 2022, there are an estimated 1,214,540 residents in Surrey.
  • The resident population of Surrey has been estimated to have grown by 0.7 per cent between 2021 and 2022 (8.547 residents).
  • The latest annual population growth of Surrey is lower than the South East (0.9%) and England (1.0%).
  • The majority of the annual population growth is from international migration and, although Surrey has an aging population, slightly more births than deaths. 
  • The resident population of Surrey has been estimated to have grown by 6.1 per cent in between 2012 and 2022 (representing 69,529 residents).
  • One in every five residents are aged 65 and over in Surrey and this group has grown by 15 per cent between 2012 and 2022 (representing an additional 29,063 residents).
  • On a whole, there are more children in Surrey than ten years ago (11,554 additional residents aged 15 and under, representing a growth of 5%).
