Purpose 

This report summarises Road Traffic Collision (RTC) incidents attended by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) between January 2021 and December 2025. It highlights overall trends, district level variation and the nature of RTC related operational activity, supported by detailed tables. 

1. Overall Incident Trends (2021–2025) 

Across the six year period, SFRS attended 4,655 incidents in total. 

  • RTC demand remained relatively stable between 2021 and 2025, averaging approximately 930 incidents per year. The numbers remain broadly consistent, demonstrating a persistent demand on SFRS resources. 

  • RTC incidents reached their highest level in 2024 (1,007 incidents), before reducing slightly in 2025. 

  • Operational activity is predominantly focused on making collision scenes safe, with a smaller proportion requiring vehicle extrication or casualty release.

Key observations 

  • Making scenes safe accounts for around two-thirds of all RTC incidents and remains the predominant response activity. 
  • Vehicle safety operations are the second most common activity. 
  • Approximately 12% of RTC incidents required casualty release or extrication, indicating a significant proportion of collisions involve trapped or injured occupants. 
  • Relatively few incidents required only advice or monitoring activity.

Key observations 

  • Guildford records the highest number of RTC incidents, accounting for approximately 14% of all RTC activity. 
  • Reigate & Banstead and Runnymede also experience consistently high RTC demand. 
  • The three highest-volume districts (Guildford, Reigate & Banstead and Runnymede) account for almost 38% of all RTC incidents attended. 
  • Epsom & Ewell records the lowest RTC volume during the reporting period.
